WHY IS AUTOMOTIVE PAINT IMPORTANT?
Automotive paint does much more than make your vehicle look good. It plays an essential role in protecting your car's bodywork from everyday wear, weather exposure and environmental damage.
A properly applied automotive paint system helps:
-
Protect Against Corrosion: Creates a protective barrier that helps prevent moisture from reaching exposed metal and causing rust.
-
Maintain Your Vehicle's Appearance: Restores colour, gloss and a smooth, professional finish.
-
Protect Against the Elements: Suitable paint systems provide resistance to UV exposure, rain, dirt and environmental contaminants.
-
Preserve Vehicle Value: Well-maintained paintwork helps protect your vehicle's appearance and resale value.
-
Personalise Your Vehicle: Change colours, refresh faded paintwork or create a completely customised finish.
WHY DO PEOPLE REPAINT THEIR CARS?
There are plenty of reasons to give your vehicle a fresh coat of paint.
Scratches, Chips & Minor Damage: Everyday driving can leave stone chips, scratches and scuffs. Repainting damaged areas restores the appearance and helps protect exposed surfaces.
Faded or Weathered Paint: Years of exposure to sunlight and harsh weather can cause paint to fade, oxidise or lose its gloss. Repainting can bring back a fresh, vibrant finish.
Accident & Panel Repairs: Replacement panels and repaired bodywork often require repainting to match the vehicle's existing colour.
Rust Repairs: After corrosion has been properly removed or treated, applying a suitable primer and topcoat system helps protect the repaired area against future rust.
Classic Car Restorations: Whether you're restoring a vehicle to its original factory colour or creating something unique, quality automotive paint is essential for achieving the desired finish.
Customisation & Colour Changes: From subtle colour changes to complete transformations, automotive paint allows you to give your vehicle a personalised look.
WHAT TYPES OF AUTOMOTIVE PAINT ARE AVAILABLE?
Different automotive paint systems offer different finishes, application methods and levels of durability. Choosing the right system depends on your vehicle, project and desired result.
1K Acrylic Paint
A traditional, air-drying automotive paint commonly used for classic vehicle restorations, touch-ups and general refinishing. Acrylic paint is relatively straightforward to apply and can be polished to achieve a smooth, glossy finish once sufficiently dry.
Automotive Basecoat
One of the most commonly used systems for modern automotive refinishing. Basecoat provides the vehicle's colour and is available in solid, metallic and pearl finishes.
Basecoat must be finished with a compatible clear coat to provide the required gloss, durability and protection.
2K Direct Gloss
A professional two-component paint system that uses a hardener to produce a durable, high-gloss finish. Unlike basecoat systems, 2K direct gloss generally doesn't require a separate clear coat and is particularly suited to solid colours.
Automotive Aerosol Paint
Perfect for smaller repairs, touch-ups and DIY projects, aerosol cans offer a convenient alternative to traditional spray gun application.
Available in various paint systems, including 1K acrylic, basecoat and selected 2K products, aerosols are ideal for jobs where using a spray gun isn't practical.
2K paints and aerosols containing isocyanates require specialist safety precautions, appropriate respiratory protection and suitable spraying facilities.
