Car-Rep® Anti-Rust Primers are alkyd based, efficient anti-corrosion primers designed for surfaces which are either rusty or which are fragile for corrosion. The alkyd base compounds offer very short surface drying abilities, whereas the final drying takes around 7 days. During this long drying process the primer reacts chemically with oxygen, as a result superior anti-corrosion properties.

Car-Rep® Anti-Rust Primers must be coated only wet-on-wet in 15 minutes after priming or as completely dry after 7 days.

  • 1,5m2 Coverage.
    - Direct To Rust.
    - Quick Drying.
    - Rust Stop.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Direct to Rust Application: Can be applied directly over existing rust, eliminating the need for complete rust removal in some cases.
  • Rust Stop: Acts as a rust converter, neutralizing the rusting action and creating a stable surface for painting.
  • Anti-Corrosion Properties: Alkyd base provides excellent anti-corrosion protection, especially when allowed to fully cure.
  • Quick Drying: Features quick surface drying, with full hardness achieved in 7 days.
  • Good Adhesion: Provides strong adhesion to metal, aluminum, zinc, galvanized steel, and other modern automotive substrates.
  • Versatile: Can be used on various surfaces, including bare metal, previously painted surfaces, and even some plastics.
Sanding Properties: Some formulations offer good sanding properties for a smooth finish.
  • Overcoating: Can be overcoated with most car paints, including water-based and solvent-based options.
  • Weldable: Certain formulations can be used as a weld-through primer.

Application and Drying:

  • Surface Preparation: For best results, loose rust should be removed before application.
  • Wet-on-Wet Application: Can be applied wet-on-wet within 15 minutes of the previous coat or after a full 7-day cure.
  • Drying Time: Surface drying is quick, but full hardness can take 7 days.
Recoating: Can be recoated with most automotive paints after a short drying time (e.g., 30 minutes for some).

Considerations:

  • Temperature and Humidity: Low temperatures and humidity can affect drying and curing times.
  • Mechanical Stress: Avoid mechanical stress until the primer is fully cured.
  • Manufacturer's Instructions: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for optimal results.
